Started in 2006 as the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Project, Kundaly Natural Extracts was one of the premier diversification projects of KDHP, a result of the company’s aim at becoming an agri-corporate. KNE was started with the intention of cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants and extraction of oils, and subsequently the scope of operations included production of concretes and absolutes of floral crops such as Rose Damascena, Acacia Decurrens, Tube Rose, Jasmine Sambac, Jasmine Grandiflorum, etc.
As part of this initiative, 67 hectares of rose was planted in the high elevation Top Station region of Munanr (5800 ft AMSL), and trials conducted for the production of oil, rose water, concrete and absolute of rose damascene. Rose cultivars were sourced from Palampur and other traditional cultivated areas of North India.
Currently, the KNE rose plantations at Kundaly is the single largest area in South India under rose cultivation.
